The Diccionario Bilingüe de Terminología Jurídica (Bilingual Legal
Dictionary) was not only the first legal bilingual dictionary
published in the Argentine Republic in 1988, but also the first one
edited on CD-ROM in 1998. This work won the First Prize for Bilingual
Legal Lexicography unanimously awarded by the members of the panel of
the II Bilingual Lexicography Contest (English-Spanish) of the
University of Extremadura, Cáceres, Spain, in 1996. We are very
pleased to introduce this Fourth Edition amended, corrected, enlarged,
and updated and also compiled and edited on CD-ROM. This is a single-volume
legal bilingual dictionary, which covers a broad range of terminology
drawn from all the main fields of law, business, accounting, capital
markets, tax, finance, and commerce. It has about 35,000 terms and it
meets a specific need in an important field. Since our aim has been to
make a dictionary of legal terminology, special attention has been
given to those words which, in the experience of the compilers, give
translators, lawyers, interpreters and accountants some difficulty in
translation. Therefore, it has been favorable accepted by domestic and
foreign certified translators, lawyers, court interpreters, law-firms,
certified accountants, students and by the public in general, who
acknowledged this Dictionary as a useful and essential tool to
facilitate their tasks. Since many of the basic word entries are
lengthy and may have different meanings according to the subject being
dealt with, much thought has been given to their planning. Unlike its
previous editions, it is no longer divided into chapters but edited in
alphabetical order. Likewise, as there are words or terms that do not
have an exact translation, we include both the pertinent Translator's
Notes and Explanatory Notes, which contain the translations and
explanations of specific phrases. There is no doubt at all that this
Dictionary shall be very useful and shall meet the needs of those who
seek to use legal terminology as there is no other Dictionary in the
market either similar to it or comprising in detail the variety of
subjects already mentioned. 2004.
